Can I Download Sketchup To Macbook Air

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and depending on which MacBook Air model you have, download El Capitan, High Sierra, or Catalina. If your computer's maximum OS is El Capitan, you can't use that book on it. In any case, combo updaters cannot be used for a full version upgrade. After the download is finished you will need to partition the 256 GB on your Macbook Air. I only gave 10 GB for Windows 7 since I only use it to open Windows specific files such as.exe and stuff. If you are going to start using it more than your Mac OS X, I would probably give it at least 100 GB or more to use. Mac java download.

I use Sketch on an iMac. But I'm thinking about buying a MacBook Air for occasional use with Sketch. Can anyone comment on how well Sketch performs on a MacBook Air with 13-inch screen, 1440 by 900 screen resolution and 1.6GHz processor?
I know a MacBook Pro would be better, but would like to know about experiences running Sketch on a MacBook Pro. Thx

  • Correction to last sentence: 'I know a MacBook Pro would be better, but would like to know about experiences running Sketch on a MacBook Air.'
  • Hey @pomme27
I used to work in Sketch on a MB Air (Model 2013) and had no performance problems or even noticeable lags or anything.
But I consider myself one of the lucky fews who don't have any major bugs in Sketch. I hear from others having disappearing text boxes, jumping text lines, … or that Sketch is generally eating up Gigs of memory.
If you decide on getting an Air, I'd suggest going for the max. amount of RAM.
    My 2 cents
  • I also have Sketch on my Mac Book Air (13-inch, Mid 2012), 1.8 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM and I have no problems running Sketch.

  • Thanks Olivier and Denzil. Glad to hear Sketch works well on the MacBook Air. I guess I am most concerned about the low 1440 by 900 screen resolution on the MacBook Air. It is lower resolution than the devices (e.g., retina iPad) that I would be designing for. Is that an issue when designing with vector-graphics?
  • Shouldn't be an issue with the designing for retina screens with Sketch Mirror: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sketch-mirror/id677296955?mt=8
I really recommend buying that app it's the only way to really know if your designs work for iPad/iPhone screens.
Personally I did experience some lag running Sketch on my old Air before, but it was the bottom of the line 11'. I would say that even on the 13' though you may want to be a little more responsible about breaking up your designs into different sheets. If you have a whole app in one sheet with many artboards it can get pretty heavy and experience delays. I'm probably the only one irresponsible enough to abuse my computer/Sketch in that way though!
Hope you enjoy your new comp!
  • I'm currently working on MacBook Air 11 with 8 Gb of RAM, no performance issues whatsoever, and there's an option for «Retina Canvas» that scales your artboards down by 50% while keeping their actual size in pixels.
MBA (and the new MacBook) are the best computers Apple ever made imo. They are powerfull enough for any design job I'm doing (apps and web).
